The Circle of Hollywood Life, where successful films either get sequels or remakes. Recycling. It’s environmentally friendly, in a way.

Disney have announced that Jon Favreau will be making a live-action adaptation of their 1994 animated classic The Lion King this week. Twitter didn’t react well, despite Favreau making the superb live-action version of The Jungle Book earlier this year, and Lion King already being an adaptation itself – being based on Shakespeare’s Hamlet. Save the scorn for when Kevin James is cast as Pumbaa.

Ever since Tim Burton’s live-action Alice in Wonderland made all the money back in 2010, Disney are keen to adapt more of their animated features. Beauty and the Beast is another one, which revealed the first look at Emma Watson’s Belle and Dan Stevens’ Beast this week. Well, not intentionally. The images were quickly taken down and we can’t show them anymore, but I’m sure someone’s left them laying around the Internet somewhere…

I’m saying you should search for them.

The Circle of Life isn’t just revolving at Disney. It’s a Hollywood-wide mentality. Antoine Fuqua has spoken about updating Tony Montana for his Scarface remake, production on Rock ‘The Dwayne’ Johnson’s Jumanji film is well underway…which is actually a sequel, not a remake…and War for the Planet of the Apes finally has a synopsis…but that’s more of a prequel. The Circle of Life can be confusing.

Which itself is kind of a remake of the 60s films…

It gets even more mind-boggling with Expanded Cinematic Universes – which are definitely here to stay after Disney CEO Bob Iger promised at least another decade of Star Wars movies last week. Flickering Myth’s Neil Calloway asked if that’s actually a good thing. He makes an intelligent argument for why not, but I found it hard to concentrate on with the Imperial March blaring away on my Darth Vader-shaped BlueTooth speaker.

The domed head makes for a fuller sound.

Valene Kane let slip she’s playing Jyn Erso’s mother in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Not the most Aleraan-shattering news, but seeing that she’s four years younger than Felicity Jones, it suggests we’ll see flashbacks in the anthology movie. Could that be another dissolution of the myth like Neil warned?

Star Wars The Force Awakens (7)

You’ll have to speak up. I’m playing the second Force Awakens trailer really loud on my phone.

If you prefer your Star Wars actors in more independent movies, however, Kylo Ren plays a bus driver in Jim Jarmusch’s new film Paterson. He only charges Solo fares.

If anyone can change the perception of video game movies being bad, it’s the director who relaunched Star Wars (and Star Trek and Mission: Impossible, too), J.J. Abrams. He’s been developing a film based on Portal since 2013, and he’s hoping to make an announcement soon.

Hopefully the cake isn’t a lie.

Stan Lee apparently filmed four Marvel Cinematic Universe cameos in one day recently. Which is a great piece of news until you realise the implications: Lee is 94 years old this December, and Marvel are probably getting as many cameos as while they still can.

Head to the next page for when we’ll see the Batman solo movie, Doctor Strange confirming himself for Avengers: Infinity War, Wonder Woman’s sexuality being revealed and more…
